Daycare offer the bare essentials - they make sure your child is cared for and looked after for the day. Daycares lack the structure, curriculum and education of a preschool. Daycare is a place to drop-off and go to work. Staff are generally caregivers, and typically focus on supervision and safety alone.
Preschool is school. It is designed as a learning environment, staffed with professional teachers who have a passion for educating the whole-child. Curriculum is intentionally planned, with purpose behind each decision. Preschools tend to be more of a whole-family experience.
OVP ratios are far lower than public TK. A typical TK class has 24 kids with 2 teachers. Our Pre-K has a ratio of 8:1. Second, pubic school campuses are not laid out with little bodies or their social-emotional needs in mind. Studies have found that the largest portion of the day in public TK is spent simply moving children around the campus and reprimanding them for typical 4 year old behavior.
OVP is laid out specifically for "little bodies" and their social-emotional needs.
At OVP we prioritize maintaining a lower student-teacher ratio and smaller class sizes, which is why payroll is our largest expense. Unlike many other preschools in the area, we provide significantly more teachers per child to ensure individualized attention and a nurturing environment. For example, while California law allows classrooms of up to 24 children with just 2 teachers for children ages 2 to 5, our typical class is half that size, yet still employs 2 full-time teachers along with additional support staff to maintain a high level of care.
Additionally, preschools that own their real estate or operate as nonprofit organizations often have financial advantages that allow them to offer lower tuition rates. However, at OVP, we believe that investing in our teachers and providing a higher-quality educational experience justifies the cost, ensuring the best possible outcomes for your child.
You are more than welcome to waitlist online, but we do require that you take a tour before you are registered. If a spot is available, and you are able to register, we will send all the enrollment paperwork the Spring before the new school year begins (August). The waitlist fee is non-refundable and applied to your registration fee should a spot become available.
Our youngest classes have 12-14 kiddos and our Pre-K has 16-18 kiddos. All classes have 2 highly qualified co-teachers.
OVP is inspired by a variety of philosophies and approaches that are based on the best practices in our field. We blend these together into a program that fosters learning and lays the foundation for the best possible social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
OVP is open from 8 am to 5 pm M-F. Early drop off (8 am) is included in tuition. School begins at 9am. We have both half-day and full-day programs available. Half-day is until 12:30 and full-day is until 3:00. Aftercare/Enrichment is available from 3-5pm for an additional fee. See our Enrichment Page of a description of our fabulous classes.
We do not require our 2-year-olds to be potty trained. However, when they transition to the 3-year-old class at the start of the next school year (mid-August), they must be fully out of diapers and pull-ups.
No, we are a year-round school.
We provide both a morning and afternoon snack. You are responsible for sending your child’s lunch, which can either be packed from home or ordered from Bailee's Plate.
Bailee's Plate is a hot lunch provider committed to offering all-natural, organic meals made fresh daily for schools. With a focus on the highest quality ingredients and no refined sugar, they provide children with the essential nutrition they need to grow and thrive. Chef Candice, who understands that getting kids to eat their vegetables can be a challenge, cleverly incorporates hidden veggies into the sauces, ensuring kids get their full serving of greens without even knowing it. This approach makes nutritious eating enjoyable and stress-free, so children can focus on the foods they love while still benefiting from the vitamins and minerals their growing bodies need.
***Bailey's Plate is not included in tuition. Ordering and payment is done directly to the vendor.***
